This new journey to the heart of the mandolin repertoire presents two contrasting faces of the instrument. On the one hand, we can listen three special concertos, by Vivaldi, by Hummel, and before all, the world premiere recording of Thibault Perrine's orchestration of Calace's Concerto No. 1. On the other hand, we can rediscover three famous arias as well as two pieces by Paganini: all of them evoke the world of the serenade.
Like its far cousin the violin, the mandolin can sing beautiful emotions, especially when it is played by Julien Martineau, who is currently one of its greatest ambassadors. Covering two centuries of music, from Vivaldi (the famous Concerto for Two Mandolins) to Calace (First Concerto), without forgetting Paganini (all his pieces for mandolin and guitar are here gathered!) and Hummel (Concerto), Julien Martineau shows again a wonderfully diverse range of expressions on his instrument.
