Nikita Magaloff, throughout his illustrious career, performed alongside leading orchestras worldwide. He fostered personal relationships with notable composers from his home country, such as Rachmaninoff, Prokofiev, and Stravinsky, and incorporated their music into his extensive repertoire. A sudden and unexpected opportunity arose as violinist Joseph Szigeti was looking for a new accompanist. From 1930 to 1937, the duo embarked on numerous global tours, captivating audiences in Japan, China, Palestine, the Dutch East Indies, Australia, and New Zealand. Magaloff enraptured listeners in prominent European cities by delivering a total of six recitals, each featuring the complete collection of solo piano works published during Chopin’s lifetime (Op. 1–64). Notably, his April 1991 return to Japan after a hiatus of over two decades generated considerable anticipation and excitement in Tokyo. In 1992, the Montreux-Vevey Festival paid tribute to Magaloff on his 80th birthday. Despite his declining health, Magaloff was surrounded by friends and students during the tribute, listening attentively rather than performing himself. Ultimately, Magaloff made his final appearance on stage in Milan on November 15, 1992, marking the end of an extraordinary musical journey. Our double album presents several radio recordings, primarily captured from live performances. 曲目: CD 1 BEETHOVEN: Piano Concerto No 4 in G Major, Op 58 Nikita Magaloff ∙ piano Orchestre national de l’ORTF Maurice Le Roux ∙ conductor Recorded · 06 October 1964 · Paris · Théâtre des Champs-Elysées · ORTF · Live Recording RACHMANINOFF: Piano Concerto No 3 in D Minor, Op 30 Nikita Magaloff ∙ piano Rundfunkorchester Hannover des NDR Andrzej Markowski ∙ conductor Recorded · 12 December 1969 · Hannover · Landesfunkhaus · NDR · Live Recording CD 2 TCHAIKOVSKY: Piano Concerto No 1 in B-flat Minor, Op 23 Nikita Magaloff ∙ piano Orchestre de Radio-Luxembourg Henri Pensis ∙ conductor Recorded · 20 October 1955 · Luxembourg · Théâtre Municipal · RTL · Radio Studio Recording RAVEL: Piano Concerto in G Major, M 83 Nikita Magaloff ∙ piano Sinfonieorchester des Norddeutschen Rundfunks Hans Schmidt-Isserstedt ∙ conductor Recorded · 23 October 1963 · Hamburg · Musikhalle · NDR · Live Recording PROKOFIEV: Piano Concerto No 3 in C Major, Op 26 Nikita Magaloff ∙ piano Orchestre National de l’ORTF Zdeněk Mácal ∙ conductor Recorded · 28 November 1973 · Paris · Théâtre des Champs-Elysées · ORTF · Live Recording |
