荷賽•伊圖比Jose Iturbi (鋼琴&指揮)

早年,美國好萊塢經常邀請古典音樂名人為電影增添光彩。例如:海飛茲(Jascha Heifetz)在1939年的電影《青少年與音樂》(They Shall Have Music),以及雷萬特(Oscar Levant)和史坦(Isaac Stern)在1946年的電影《銀海香魂》(Humoresque )中無與倫比的演出。之後多位大師,如伯恩斯坦(Leonard Bernstein)、卡拉絲(Maria Callas)、托斯卡尼尼(Arturo Toscanini)、塞爾金(Rudolf Serkin)、西格提(Joseph Szigeti)等人也曾登上好萊塢的星光大道。
這套專輯的主角同樣是曾在好萊塢發光的古典音樂巨星荷賽•伊圖比(José Iturbi)。為向其致敬,專輯收錄他於1933-1953年間為RCA Victor唱片公司完成的所有錄音。並透過伊圖比基金會、好萊塢博物館董事會,以及美國音樂名人芬斯坦(Michael Feinstein)的協助,專輯得以順利出版。
來自西班牙的伊圖比是指揮家、鋼琴演奏家。1895年出生於瓦倫西亞,1980年逝世於美國加州。曾參與 1940 年代多部好萊塢電影的演出。自幼愛好音樂,據說七歲時便能教導年紀比他大數倍的人學習音樂。成名前擔任西班牙小提琴家基羅加(Manuel Quiroga, 1892-1961)1911 年到 1937 年國際巡迴演出的鋼琴伴奏。
最初伊圖比到巴塞隆納投身於音樂大師祖根摩力的門下,後來在巴黎音樂院以優異成績畢業。24歲在日內瓦音樂學院擔任鋼琴系主任,1928年在倫敦以鋼琴家的身份首度亮相。1929年前往美國發展。在美國除了演奏鋼琴,還被邀請擔任各大樂隊的指揮。1930年他在卡內基音樂廳舉辦音樂會,由於觀眾反應熱烈,不得不增加數百個臨時座位。1933年與RCA Victor唱片公司簽約合作,其中蕭邦的降A大調「波蘭舞曲」一曲截至1974年銷售量竟超過200萬張以上。1936年,被聘為羅徹斯特愛樂管弦樂團(Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra)指揮之職,凡八年之久。1981年以他為名的國際鋼琴大賽於西班牙瓦倫西亞舉辦首場比賽。
伊圖比開始為影迷所熟識是1945年哥倫比亞公司發行,講述蕭邦一生的《一曲難忘》(A Song to Remember)電影中,擔任飾演蕭邦的男主角唐尼威特的替身演奏古典名曲。更被米高梅公司重金聘請參演多部歌舞片,包括1943年的音樂劇《千呼萬喚》(Thousands Cheer)、1944年的美國音樂喜劇影片《百萬音樂》(Music for Millions,或譯《彩鳳清歌》)、1945年的真人動畫歌舞片、奇幻片、喜劇片《主播》(Anchors Aweigh,或譯《翠鳳艶曲》)、1949年的《午夜之吻》(Midnight Kiss),並於1948年的《三個勇敢的少女》(Three Daring Daughters)中擔綱主角。
整套專輯包含16張CD,音源取自原版的「漆膠唱片」(lacquer discs),並以當前最高解析度的24 bit/192 kHz規格轉錄,其中95%的錄音都是首度以CD格式發行,並包含23首不曾發行過的錄音。收錄的曲目包括史卡拉第、莫札特、貝多芬、法雅、孟德爾頌、蕭邦、舒曼、李斯特、柴可夫斯基、聖桑、德布西、拉賀曼尼諾夫等人的作品,其中包含伊圖比的鋼琴獨奏作品與協奏曲,其所指揮的管弦樂曲,以及與他的妹妹安帕羅.伊圖比(Amparo Iturbi, 1898-1969)合作雙鋼琴作品。另外也收錄了3張安帕羅.伊圖比的獨奏專輯。
