專輯簡介：
艾瑞克．寇茲（1886-1957）是英國輕音樂作曲家、指揮家和中提琴家。1906年進入倫敦皇家音樂院隨Lionel Tertis學中提琴、隨Frederick Corder學作曲。1910年便在皇后廳管弦樂團擔任中提琴手，1912年升任首席，但七年後在無預警的情形下被免職，當時寇茲在他地指揮自己作品的演出。自此寇茲不再觸碰中提琴，全心投入作曲。1922年以「尋歡作樂者The Merrymakers」小獲成功，但真正大受歡迎要到1933年「倫敦組曲London Suite」的發表。寇茲以輕古典管弦樂曲著名，他的作品有著簡單而難忘的旋律，十分適合「主題」音樂的需求，像是BBC就有許多廣播和電視的片頭曲、主題曲用到他的作品。此外，寇茲也作有電影配樂和歌曲。許多英國二十世紀音樂家都是寇茲的擁護者，包括艾爾加。
寇茲生逢其時，留下許多78轉錄音，最早由The British Columbia發行，後來也在Decca錄音。這些已消失數十年的錄音，在工程師Alan Bunting搜尋、修復和再製下，終於將寇茲於1923-1957年間所有的商業錄音集結成套，發行本輯。其中有許多錄音來自世界各國收藏家，取得過程並不容易。本輯有兩本CD手冊，其一是多達十九頁的曲目說明，每一軌的錄音年月日、地點、樂團、母帶編號等都有十分詳盡的記載。另一本手冊則是學者Michael Payne所寫的文章「Eric Coates and the Gramophone」。Michael Payne畢業時的博士論文便是關於寇茲，2012年他出版了「The Life and Music of Eric Coates」一書，是本輯企劃者Alan Bunting將本輯付諸行動的催化劑。Michael Payne為本輯所寫的二十五頁專文已屬論文級，相當難得。此外，本輯CD-7加收其他指揮家對寇茲作品的詮釋，是很好的對照版本。
