本書共11章：第1章綜述教材研究的三大層面——內容、使用與出版，評析其研究重點及局限；第2—4章聚焦英語教材內容研究，涉及選材的階級表徵、問題的題型設計、目標能力的選擇設定等；第5—7章闡述使用研究，探究了教師對專門用途英語和學術英語教材的認知與改編，並考察了國際教材作為本土二語教學材料的使用效果；第8—11章探討出版研究，反思了教材編寫創作過程，提出了與利益相關方溝通合作的建議。
